Township government is a form of local government often considered the grassroots level of government because of its close connection to the residents it serves. Township government provides essential services and assistance to the community while working to address the needs of local residents.
The township is led by the Township Trustee, who is elected by the residents to serve a four-year term. The Trustee works alongside the Township Advisory Board, which consists of three elected members who provide oversight and guidance on township matters
Townships are responsible for several duties outlined in the Indiana Code. Some of the primary responsibilities of the Township Trustee include:
• Township Assistance
• Fire Protection Services
• Weed Control
• Care and Maintenance of Abandoned Cemeteries
• Public Park Maintenance
