Across the United States, millions of people receive monthly Social Security or Supplemental Security Income (SSI) benefits. Some adults and children need assistance managing these benefits, and the Social Security Administration may appoint a Representative Payee to help manage the funds on behalf of the recipient.
A Representative Payee is responsible for using the benefits to meet the recipient’s needs and ensure expenses are paid appropriately. Benefits are used first for essential needs such as food, housing, utilities, clothing, medical care, and other basic necessities. The Representative Payee must always act in the best interest of the individual receiving benefits.
OUR PROGRAM
Center Township operates a Representative Payee Program designed to assist individuals in managing their Social Security and Supplemental Security Income (SSI) benefits. Under the direction of the Township Trustee, Program Supervisor Tracy Rogers oversees more than 70 Representative Payees each year.
The program helps recipients maximize the use of their benefits by developing budgets, managing expenses, and ensuring bills are paid in an organized and responsible manner. The goal of the program is to provide support while helping individuals maintain financial stability and meet their everyday needs.
